"The Writer at Work" is a new book of essays by C.K.Stead that mixes literary criticism and autobiography. His two previous volumes of criticism are "In the Glass Case: Essays in NZ Literature" (1981) and "Answering to the Language" (1989). This book is arranged in six parts, moving outwards from New Zealand, reviewing the works of other writers and meditating on the teaching of literature.
