Carroll du Chateau describes how the opportunity to restore the site and the heritage buildings was nearly lost late last century, as major demolition plans had already been put in place. Fortunately for Auckland, that never happened and instead Cooper and Company were selected to join with Auckland Council to transform the area through a public/private partnership.  With a beautiful photographic record of the redevelopment and anecdotes from many of those involved – our favourite tells of a squatter hotwiring one of the historic buildings – the book celebrates the history of this pivotal Auckland waterfront precinct.
