A beautifully produced book of 40 colour and numerous b/w reproductions of Hodgkins' work from public and private collections all over the world. (Internationally, Hodgkins is still the best-known New Zealand artist.) Colour reproductions have detailed full page captions. The book is prefaced by three long essays on each of the main periods of the artist's work, comprising the first major study of her since McCormick's 'Portrait of Frances Hodgkins' 1981. The three authors are university art history teachers. The book includes chronology, list of exhibitions, bibliography and name index and was published with help from the QEII Arts Council.
